Although the use of modern pest control methods leads to production of more food, organic foods are growing popular with nutritionists and experts in the field of medicine. Chemicals that are often used in production of some foods contain carcinogenic substances that cause growth disorders and cancer. Nutritionists are of the opinion that consumption of fresh food is also important for maximum nutritional benefit. Some nutrients become denatured if food is stored for a long time. Vitamins such as vitamin C are denatured a short while after harvest of food. Thus, early consumption ensures that most of the nutrients are absorbed into the body. Some substances known as omega-3 fats have been found to be beneficial to human physical and mental development. These substances are exclusively available in fish products. This means that if a person is to benefit from the use of these fats, he or she has to include fish in the diet. However, since fish is not a popular food product, food-processing firms are now adding this nutrient to other processed foods. To obtain the particular nutrients, one does not have to consume fish products. The discussed diet and nutrition trends are some of the recent recommendations by health nutritionist. They reflect the changing field of nutritional science, which is moving away from the quantitative to the qualitative aspect of nutrition.
