However, there are some people who consider twenty-one years to be too high for the minimum age and, therefore, feel that it should be lowered. There are others who feel that twenty one years is the perfect age, and lowering it would encourage more youth to partake to drinking. Various things influenced the determination of the drinking age. The setting of the legal age for drinking alcohol began, first, with the National Prohibition of alcohol. National Prohibition meant that alcohol was banned for every person regardless of their age. This happened in every state. The National Prohibition of alcohol was initiated in 1919, and it lasted up to the year 1933. Beer and other types of alcohol became legalized. The end of the National Prohibition heralded the creation of drinking laws by each state that would serve them. There are states that limited their legal drinking age to twenty-one while others set it at eighteen years. Other states set their drinking age in between eighteen and twenty-one. This scenario lasted for a few years before the National Minimum Drinking Age Act was passed in 1984.
