There are many conflicting ideas as to whom exactly, Andrew Jackson, the seventh president of the United States, fought for. Several historians give conflicting ideas. As it stands, however, everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion. What we cannot ignore is the fact that, all said and done, Jackson had a vision for the people. It is suggested that Jackson’s was a fight against class. He continued to show support for the farmers and workers who were against big businesses. He was for the empowerment of the low income earners. On the other hand, it is also suggested that Jackson did not in any way fight for the common man; neither was he a friend of the common man. This proposal is supported by the observation that during Jackson’s era, the rich continued to grow richer, whereas the poor continued to grow poorer. It can also be argued that Jackson firmly embraced the true Republican ideals, by being a man of the people. That is why he did not show discrimination in who he supported. On the contrary, this suggestion is quickly countered by the fact that he continued to remove Indians from the country. This is interpreted as an attempt by Jackson to continue extending the supremacy of the whites all across the North American continent. It is difficult to come to a unanimous agreement as to who was really represented by Jackson. Nevertheless, at the end of the day, everyone felt well represented, and this is what mattered.
